Professor Donald J. Macintosh, B.Sc., Ph.D.

cenTER Director.

More than 35 years of professional working in Southeast Asia in the fields of coastal/marine ecology and development, with assignments as Team Leader for various donor agencies in project identification, design, appraisal and monitoring. Frequent short-term project missions undertaken to Vietnam since 1989, plus 3 years as Senior Technical Adviser to the project “Support to the Marine Protected Area Network in Viet Nam (2003 to 2006) based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Also extensive educational and research experience in coastal/marine protected areas in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Prof Macintosh has a BSc in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen and a Ph.D. in Mangrove Ecology from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

Currently he is the Coordinator of the Mangroves for the Future (MFF) initiative based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Responsible for Project Management and Backstopping.

Currently backstopping and Danish Administrator of the Danida Funded “Training and Research on physiological constraints in aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam” (PhysCAM) as well backstopping for the Coordinator of the IUCN Initiative "Mangroves for the Future".

Been involved in the mid-term review of the Danida support to the World Bank funded “ Coastal Wetlands Protection and Development Project ” (CWPDP).

Editor and Quality Assurance on the World Bank project " Mainstreaming Conservation of Coastal Biodiversity through Formulation of a Code of Conduct for Sustainable Management of Mangrove Forest Ecosystems".

Consulted on the Danida funded “ Support to the Marine Protected Area Network, Vietnam ” project on various issues related to development of information materials (local people, national as well as international tourists) as well as backstopped on the Danida funded "Can Tho University - Aarhus University Link in Environmental Sciences" (CAULES) Project.

In addition have built up qualifications in:

  • Project Design, Implementation, Management and Review on several development projects in SE Asia since 1997
  • Collaboration and contract negociations with GoV, International Donors, Scientists, NGO’s and decision makers
  • Fundraising from Danish and International Donors
