Welcome

to the Department of Bioscience!

Biodiversity

In Biodiversity we study the variation in the living nature.

Evolution

In biological evolution we study the development of life and change in properties of populations and of organisms that happens over generations (, and that is transmitted via the genetic material from one generation to the next)

Ecophysiology

In ecophysiology we study the functions of living organisms, how they interact with their environment, and why they have evolved the way they have.

Genetics

In genetics we study the science of inheritance.

Ecology

In ecology we try to understanding interactions between living organisms and their environment.

Biogeochemicalcycles

Is the study of the cycling of the elements, most importantly carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur, and their exchange between living organisms (the biosphere) and the abiotic world (the geosphere).

Nature Management

Humans affect the environment: we build, farm, and utilize the earth and aquatic environment. We change the climate and set up conservation areas.

Climate and Environment

Earth’s living nature is currently exposed to major global environmental changes (global change), driven by the large and still rapidly increasing human population and its resource use

Biotechnology

The applied aspect of our research relates mainly to biological processes in technical systems (sewage treatment and aquaculture).

Freshwater- and Marine Biology

In Freshwater and marine biology we look into how the oceans, coastal areas, lakes and streams function and affect the life on Earth
